Blasts from the Past
Of Goats and Greens
A blog for food and cookery and discussions of weird things like nutrition, restaurant excursions, growing food in my own garden, DIY, and farmsteading/homesteading. But, mostly food. Mostly harmless...
I definitely steer to a preference for Real Food. (Would someone's great-grandparent somewhere have recognized that item as food?) Otherwise, I'm an omnivore who travels the world (gustatorially). Yes, I also make use of "odd bits". No, I don't bake desserts much -- I really don't have much of a "sweet-tooth". Nearly all of my recipes in recent years are gluten-free. And other than coconut, my recent and future recipes are tree-nut free, as I have digestive issues with those. There's a strong Paleo influence here.
I try to post recipes every Friday, with potential supplemental posts on Tuesdays.
Please leave me comments! Interacting with folk drives me forward!

Mahi Mahi with Sweet Potato, Avocado, Onion, Cheese, Cucumber and Cilantro Chutney in White Corn Tortilla Shells
Contains: Seafood, nightshades, dairy. Potential soy. Is: Gluten-free. (The soy would be in the coriander chutney I used. Other savory chutneys could be substituted, or you could make your own – something I plan to challenge myself with this coming … Continue reading
Sous Vide Lamb Shoulder Chop, with Sweet Potatoes and Mushrooms
Contains: Dairy, nightshade spice. Is: Wheat/gluten-free, primal. Made for the June 6th online Culinary Meet-Up. I really wish I could share!!! (And taste everyone else’s food in return!) The concept behind this particular Meet-Up was to focus once again … Continue reading
Toasted Quinoa with Sweet Potato and Peppers
Contains: Nightshades, pseudo-grains. Is: Vegetarian, vegan, plant-derived, gluten-free. One of the several upcoming recipes I’m pulling off of Food.com (previously Recipezaar.com), where I was active before I discovered blogging was much easier than following a nailed-down format for posting recipes … Continue reading
Avocado Sweet Potato Toast, Avocado Rice Cake Toast – Gluten-Free
Avocado toast has become a “thing”. When at home, I seldom eat bread or toast, as I don’t need the simple carbs, but I do admit that toast makes a handy base for items such as melty cheese and so … Continue reading
Squid Stuffed With Seafood (and Some Veggies)
I like food challenges, as long as they’re not of the ilk of “Combine Ritz crackers with Marshmallow Fluff and hazelnuts, and show us your dish”, which is what a lot of Chopped seems to be. Indeed, I like to … Continue reading
Thanksgiving: Stuffed Delicata Squash
I’m home alone this Thanksgiving, and I was supposed to go to a Post-Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday, but I’m not doing that, either. I’ve broken my tibia, and cannot drive, and to be honest, most homes aren’t really handicapped … Continue reading
Roasted Lamb Shoulder, with Sweet Potatoes and Brussels Sprouts
PS: I now have a Recipe Index up at the top of this blog. Definitely it helps to remind me what I’ve already posted, and what I thought I posted, but apparently did not… ### I simply cooked up a most … Continue reading
Sweet Potato Latkes
It’s not going to happen again for another seven thousand plus years, Chanukkah falling on the same date as U.S. Thanksgiving (although it could happen sooner on other holidays somewhere). This is an artifact of the Jewish calendar (more lunar-oriented) … Continue reading
Grain-Free Meatloaf?
Yep, meatloaf. I have never liked the generic dish called “meatloaf”, but I just got involved in a Farmer’s Market sort of pastured “Meatshare”, and close to half the meat is.. ground meat. I don’t want to stuff peppers or … Continue reading
Egg Me On
Mother’s famed deviled egg recipe used mayo, Dijon or Grey Poupon mustard, dill pickles and a bit of curry powder. I love the stuffing out of it! When I make these, I buy the smallest container of mayo I … Continue reading →
