Blasts from the Past
Of Goats and Greens
A blog for food and cookery and discussions of weird things like nutrition, restaurant excursions, growing food in my own garden, DIY, and farmsteading/homesteading. But, mostly food. Mostly harmless...
I definitely steer to a preference for Real Food. (Would someone's great-grandparent somewhere have recognized that item as food?) Otherwise, I'm an omnivore who travels the world (gustatorially). Yes, I also make use of "odd bits". No, I don't bake desserts much -- I really don't have much of a "sweet-tooth". Nearly all of my recipes in recent years are gluten-free. And other than coconut, my recent and future recipes are tree-nut free, as I have digestive issues with those. There's a strong Paleo influence here.
I try to post recipes every Friday, with potential supplemental posts on Tuesdays.
Please leave me comments! Interacting with folk drives me forward!

New World Tamales – Vegan: Beans, Squash and Arbol Chilis
Contains: Legumes, nightshades, grains (corn). Is: Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free. For this recipe, and for the turkey tomato tamales, my goal was to make them with pre-Columbian New World ingredients (but using modern methods and modern developments of such ingredients). There … Continue reading
Vegetarian Tex Mex Chili, Plus a Dry Spice Blend
Contains: Legumes, nightshades. Is: Gluten-free, also dairy free and vegan, depending on toppings. Great for all-week dining. I attended a potluck with five other women on Saturday. It was a warm afternoon, and we enjoyed what was likely to be … Continue reading
Kale, Apple, Pear, Onion, Brussels Sprouts, Squash Casserole
Vegan and Gluten-Free. I apologize for the lack of a photo of the finished meal – just haven’t been myself lately. Too many things on my plate, and I’m not talking supper. This was prepared for a potluck this past … Continue reading
A Side Suitable for Holiday Fare, Headlining Turnips and Squash
I’ve been a bit tardy in the posting department. The snowstorm took its toll, even if I didn’t get all that cold, and I’ve been down twice in November to visit my ailing father. This and other things rather put … Continue reading
Gluten-Free Muffins with Almond Meal, Squash and Blueberries
Yep, another bake sale. I like baking, I just don’t want to be stuck with all the results (on my hips or elsewhere), so a bake sale is a fun way to let this outlet bear fruit. I’m an occasional … Continue reading
Winter Is Coming: Autumnal Prep for the Homestead Garden
While I already had a surprising and unpredicted temperature drop to 34 degrees Fahrenheit about a week prior, which did some crop damage, we’ were predicted to have 31 degrees by morning on Saturday October 5th. It turned out we … Continue reading →
