Blasts from the Past
Of Goats and Greens
A blog for food and cookery and discussions of weird things like nutrition, restaurant excursions, growing food in my own garden, DIY, and farmsteading/homesteading. But, mostly food. Mostly harmless...
I definitely steer to a preference for Real Food. (Would someone's great-grandparent somewhere have recognized that item as food?) Otherwise, I'm an omnivore who travels the world (gustatorially). Yes, I also make use of "odd bits". No, I don't bake desserts much -- I really don't have much of a "sweet-tooth". Nearly all of my recipes in recent years are gluten-free. And other than coconut, my recent and future recipes are tree-nut free, as I have digestive issues with those. There's a strong Paleo influence here.
I try to post recipes every Friday, with potential supplemental posts on Tuesdays.
Please leave me comments! Interacting with folk drives me forward!

Stuffed Poblano Pepper Boats: Scallops, Shallot, Za’atar
Contains: Shellfish, nightshades. Is: Paleo, gluten-free, quick and easy. Since poblano peppers don’t stand on their bottoms, I decided to make “boats” instead – which is actually the way I usually prepare stuffed bell peppers. Slice them lengthwise. I went … Continue reading
Steamed Scallop Wontons
Contains: Shellfish (scallops, oyster), gluten. Is: Quick and easy. This recipe is designed for #FishFridayFoodies. Theme this month is “Small Bites”. You will find the links to other creators in this challenge at the end of this post. You can … Continue reading
Bell Pepper Boats: Scallops, Bacon, Tomato, Quail Egg, Ikura (Salmon Eggs)
Contains: Seafood, eggs. Is: Whole30, paleo. You can consider this a sit-down appetizer, or perhaps a side for a fairly fancy meal. The recipe description is per person, simply multiply for more. This was a rather fun delight to create, … Continue reading
Thai-Inspired Red Curry with Leafy Greens & Scallops
Contains: Coconut, nightshades, seafood. Is: Gluten-free. Vegetarian/vegan option. After scoring a big batch of pak choy (a variant of bok choy, but with a whiter stem) I decided to make a Thai curry. It’s not quite Paleo or Whole30, but … Continue reading
Puff Pastry Greek-Style Scallop Appetizers and Mini-Pie
Contains: Shellfish, wheat, gluten, optional nightshade. Is: A recipe for Fish Friday Foodies. This continues my Greek month. I am taking a couple of liberties on this dish (so this one is Greek-inspired, rather than full-fledged Greek). But I … Continue reading
Salad of the Seven Fishes
Contains: Seafood, both shellfish and finned-fish. Nightshades, but one can sub out the bell peppers back with carrots or something, if that’s desired. Is: Pretty much Paleo if you leave out the cheese in any olives. Gluten-free. Piscavore. For the … Continue reading
Sea Scallops, Shrimp, Shiitake, Sprouts, Asparagus, Onion – Stir Fried
Winter Solstice is a big deal around here, raising hens. From henceforth, there will be more daylight each day, until one gets to the point where the chickens notice, and will up the production line. (Yes, one can keep lights … Continue reading
Zoodle Seafood Alfredo
A two-part recipe: The Alfredo sauce, of which I found a wonderful one on line, with a link to it. And what I did with it on my ownsome to make a good seafood Alfredo in zoodles. Oodles of zoodles??? … Continue reading
The Australian Finger Lime (Paired with Scallops)
Just a Sample, folks – I ate this for a noon snack on Thanksgiving, before going over to a Thanksgiving Dinner that would start at two, presumably. Taking a little edge off the desire for lunch, and something healthy, before … Continue reading
Squid Stuffed With Seafood (and Some Veggies)
I like food challenges, as long as they’re not of the ilk of “Combine Ritz crackers with Marshmallow Fluff and hazelnuts, and show us your dish”, which is what a lot of Chopped seems to be. Indeed, I like to … Continue reading
