Blasts from the Past
Of Goats and Greens
A blog for food and cookery and discussions of weird things like nutrition, restaurant excursions, growing food in my own garden, DIY, and farmsteading/homesteading. But, mostly food. Mostly harmless...
I definitely steer to a preference for Real Food. (Would someone's great-grandparent somewhere have recognized that item as food?) Otherwise, I'm an omnivore who travels the world (gustatorially). Yes, I also make use of "odd bits". No, I don't bake desserts much -- I really don't have much of a "sweet-tooth". Nearly all of my recipes in recent years are gluten-free. And other than coconut, my recent and future recipes are tree-nut free, as I have digestive issues with those. There's a strong Paleo influence here.
I try to post recipes every Friday, with potential supplemental posts on Tuesdays.
Please leave me comments! Interacting with folk drives me forward!

Raw Littleneck / Cherrystone Clams – Helpful Hint
I have to thank Dad for this one. I have no idea if he learned this elsewhere, or if he discovered it on his ownsome. This was just something he just DID. Procure your Fresh-in-the-Shell littleneck or cherrystone clams, and … Continue reading
Asian Coleslaw
Another hot-weather dish you don’t need to heat up your kitchen to make! Although finally this week the weather has broke in this burgh. Typically, this will be a side. You will usually find shredded carrot in recipes for Asian … Continue reading
Summery Caprese Salad with Tuna Carpaccio
We’re having a heat wave this week. I don’t have A/C in my new home (yet); I was supposed to get geothermal but it looks like rebates for that (and it’s pricey) have pretty much dried up. So I will … Continue reading
Welcome, 2016!!! Littleneck Clams, Dipping Sauce, Salad
Resolutions? We don’t need no stinkin’ resolutions! Okay, well I’ve got one that’s food-related. A vegetable with every meal. And I don’t mean onions or home fries, or just that sprinkling of cilantro — I mean something green and/or … Continue reading
Greek Tzatziki or Persian/Iranian Mast-o-Khiar
I understand the main difference between these two yogurt dishes is that the Iranian version is thicker, and may more often contain mint instead of (or with) the dill. The Greek version often uses strained yogurt, but I decided not … Continue reading
Salad for Breakfast? Featuring: Tangelo.
Tangelo, Red Cabbage, Onion, Avocado The tangelo, in case you never heard of one, is allegedly a cross between a tangerine and a grapefruit. From the name, I am wondering if this is really a cross between tangerine and pomello, … Continue reading
Oyster Mignonette
I will indeed post the Block Island portion of my most recent adventure, but for now — this is just a recipe for an oyster mignonette. After eating oysters a few times during this recent trip, I surfed around (the … Continue reading
Small Plate: Tuna, Pear, Cucumber, Nori
Hope everyone here in the northeast has pulled out of that snow storm! This “recipe” is easy, no cooking involved. Raw, actually. This was my morning’s breakfast, no kidding. I allow myself to eat unusually at whim. Per person: 1/2 … Continue reading
Doing the Salmon/Avocado Ceviche Thing
You’ll find this excellent recipe here: Weave A Thousand Flavors, Sriracha Salmon Ceviche Towers with Garden Guacamole & Radish Sprouts Of course, I had to go make it. Indeed, I had fun with it within a week of reading … Continue reading
