Blasts from the Past
Of Goats and Greens
A blog for food and cookery and discussions of weird things like nutrition, restaurant excursions, growing food in my own garden, DIY, and farmsteading/homesteading. But, mostly food. Mostly harmless...
I definitely steer to a preference for Real Food. (Would someone's great-grandparent somewhere have recognized that item as food?) Otherwise, I'm an omnivore who travels the world (gustatorially). Yes, I also make use of "odd bits". No, I don't bake desserts much -- I really don't have much of a "sweet-tooth". Nearly all of my recipes in recent years are gluten-free. And other than coconut, my recent and future recipes are tree-nut free, as I have digestive issues with those. There's a strong Paleo influence here.
I try to post recipes every Friday, with potential supplemental posts on Tuesdays.
Please leave me comments! Interacting with folk drives me forward!

Tomagoyaki: A Japanese Rolled Omelet (Dashimaki Variant)
Contains: Eggs (natch….), soy, seafood option, added sugar. Is: A great appetizer, or bento-box ready addition. FEATURING: Home Grown Eggs! (And, scallion/green onion). This recipe is derived from https://www.justonecookbook.com/tamagoyaki-japanese-rolled-omelette/, and I have taken the liberty of adding chopped scallops to … Continue reading
Bell Pepper Boats: Scallops, Bacon, Tomato, Quail Egg, Ikura (Salmon Eggs)
Contains: Seafood, eggs. Is: Whole30, paleo. You can consider this a sit-down appetizer, or perhaps a side for a fairly fancy meal. The recipe description is per person, simply multiply for more. This was a rather fun delight to create, … Continue reading
Grain-Free Ikura Avocado Hand Roll
Not that long ago, I was in the mood for a snack. I didn’t want to wait to cook up the rice (waiting defeats the point of a snack), so I decided, somewhat in the spirit of the Naruto roll … Continue reading
Feast of the Seven Fishes, 2016: Featuring Eel and Smelts
Last year I had a truncated feast – I think it was four fishes. This year I had all seven. And while this is an Italian Christmas Eve tradition, one has no need to stay with Italian methods of preparation. (Or … Continue reading
A Tale of Four Fishes on Christmas Eve
Well, we do seem to have a white Christmas, barely. Just enough to coat the grasses and pakisandra, but not adherent to the road or stone. Nice work! At any rate, I did the holiday thing last week when visiting … Continue reading
