Blasts from the Past
Of Goats and Greens
A blog for food and cookery and discussions of weird things like nutrition, restaurant excursions, growing food in my own garden, DIY, and farmsteading/homesteading. But, mostly food. Mostly harmless...
I definitely steer to a preference for Real Food. (Would someone's great-grandparent somewhere have recognized that item as food?) Otherwise, I'm an omnivore who travels the world (gustatorially). Yes, I also make use of "odd bits". No, I don't bake desserts much -- I really don't have much of a "sweet-tooth". Nearly all of my recipes in recent years are gluten-free. And other than coconut, my recent and future recipes are tree-nut free, as I have digestive issues with those. There's a strong Paleo influence here.
I try to post recipes every Friday, with potential supplemental posts on Tuesdays.
Please leave me comments! Interacting with folk drives me forward!

Mom’s Poultry Dressing/Stuffing & Her Turkey Giblet Gravy
Contains: Wheat, gluten, nightshades. Is: A family (mostly) traditional holiday turkey dressing and gravy pair of recipes. You can combine these with my earlier recipe – or with any roasted turkey / large chicken you want to make. I cannot … Continue reading
Holiday Dishes for The End of the Year (Thanksgiving Onwards)
To celebrate Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Solstice, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Hogmanay. And any other date you want to celebrate, whether for familial, spiritual, traditional, or friendship reasons. After all, any Holiday is what YOU make … Continue reading
Salad of the Seven Fishes
Contains: Seafood, both shellfish and finned-fish. Nightshades, but one can sub out the bell peppers back with carrots or something, if that’s desired. Is: Pretty much Paleo if you leave out the cheese in any olives. Gluten-free. Piscavore. For the … Continue reading
And a Partridge (er, Pheasant) and a Pear Tree…
My brother sent me a smoked pheasant from Burgers’ Smokehouse, a game poultry package, earlier this month (for my birthday, which is early December). Since I have no idea where one can get partridges hereabouts, as I think they’re strictly … Continue reading
Easter: Leek and Rosemary Lamb Shanks, with Bok Choy
And note that Easter actually falls on April Fool’s Day this year… A leg of lamb is a good solid traditional feast for omnivores at Easter, although many will vouch for a good smoked ham. (Dad, of course, would always … Continue reading
Thanksgiving: Stuffed Delicata Squash
I’m home alone this Thanksgiving, and I was supposed to go to a Post-Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday, but I’m not doing that, either. I’ve broken my tibia, and cannot drive, and to be honest, most homes aren’t really handicapped … Continue reading
Sweet Potato Latkes
It’s not going to happen again for another seven thousand plus years, Chanukkah falling on the same date as U.S. Thanksgiving (although it could happen sooner on other holidays somewhere). This is an artifact of the Jewish calendar (more lunar-oriented) … Continue reading
