Blasts from the Past
Of Goats and Greens
A blog for food and cookery and discussions of weird things like nutrition, restaurant excursions, growing food in my own garden, DIY, and farmsteading/homesteading. But, mostly food. Mostly harmless...
I definitely steer to a preference for Real Food. (Would someone's great-grandparent somewhere have recognized that item as food?) Otherwise, I'm an omnivore who travels the world (gustatorially). Yes, I also make use of "odd bits". No, I don't bake desserts much -- I really don't have much of a "sweet-tooth". Nearly all of my recipes in recent years are gluten-free. And other than coconut, my recent and future recipes are tree-nut free, as I have digestive issues with those. There's a strong Paleo influence here.
I try to post recipes every Friday, with potential supplemental posts on Tuesdays.
Please leave me comments! Interacting with folk drives me forward!

Slow-Cooker Pork Loin Roast with Tomato, Onion, and BBQ Seasonings
Contains: Nightshades, added sugar (which was in my rub). Is: Gluten-free. Last March, I posted a sous vide recipe for pork loin roast, using an apple-mustard sauce. And then I posted a oven-braised recipe for Mexican pork loin roast in … Continue reading
Braised Korean Tofu (Vegan): Dubu Jorim
Contains: Soy. legumes, nightshades. Is: Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free (if using tamari), quick and easy. This dish is not always vegetarian, but this rendition is, and I had all the ingredients (other than the tofu which I ran off to buy, … Continue reading
Chicken Drumsticks (or Wings), Baked with Balsamic Reduction & Hot Sauce.
Contains: Nightshades in the hot sauce. Is: Gluten-free, paleo. Probably nothing special, but something I’ve been making with drumsticks or wings as a main for awhile now. Usually as a lunch. Switch out the hot sauce or the backdrops or … Continue reading
Chinese Silken Tofu, Quick, Easy, Uncooked, Vegan

A Quick Chirashi Bowl, Japanese-Inspired

Leg of Lamb with Yogurt, Mint, Orange and Cardamom
Contains: Dairy. Is: Gluten-free, soy-free. I assume one could try a coconut yogurt with this. to remove the dairy. This lovely leg came from a half lamb obtained at a farm back down in Connecticut, which I picked up last … Continue reading
New World Tamales – Turkey & Tomato
Contains: Nightshades, grains (corn). Is: Gluten-free, inspired by New World meals and ingredients. The original goal for the tamales was to make them for Columbus Day, using only ingredients (though not equipment or techniques) available somewhere in the New World … Continue reading
Dad’s Eggplant (Aubergine) Pizzas
Contains: Dairy, nightshades. Is: Gluten-free, vegetarian, paleo, not truly Italian but inspired, and something good we grew up with. You can make this an omnivore dish by adding in some ground beef, or perhaps pepperoni slices. They’re not essential, and … Continue reading
Roast Cornish Game Hen
Contains: No major allergens. Is: Gluten-free, paleo. This dinner came from a home-farmed chicken. This hen weighed 1.25 pounds, dressed. (By being “dressed”, this really means undressed of feathers, feet, and guts.) She wasn’t a full out Cornish Cross, but … Continue reading
