Blasts from the Past
Of Goats and Greens
A blog for food and cookery and discussions of weird things like nutrition, restaurant excursions, growing food in my own garden, DIY, and farmsteading/homesteading. But, mostly food. Mostly harmless...
I definitely steer to a preference for Real Food. (Would someone's great-grandparent somewhere have recognized that item as food?) Otherwise, I'm an omnivore who travels the world (gustatorially). Yes, I also make use of "odd bits". No, I don't bake desserts much -- I really don't have much of a "sweet-tooth". Nearly all of my recipes in recent years are gluten-free. And other than coconut, my recent and future recipes are tree-nut free, as I have digestive issues with those. There's a strong Paleo influence here.
I try to post recipes every Friday, with potential supplemental posts on Tuesdays.
Please leave me comments! Interacting with folk drives me forward!

Thai-Inspired Red Curry with Leafy Greens & Scallops
Contains: Coconut, nightshades, seafood. Is: Gluten-free. Vegetarian/vegan option. After scoring a big batch of pak choy (a variant of bok choy, but with a whiter stem) I decided to make a Thai curry. It’s not quite Paleo or Whole30, but … Continue reading
Coconut Clam Chowdah, er Chowder
Contains: Coconut, shellfish, nightshades. Is: Dairy-free, gluten-free, grain-free, paleo, Whole30, a play on New England clam chowder. I went down to the local Mom and Pop grocery, hoping on a lark to find scallops (and a couple other things, considering … Continue reading
Thai Soup: Tom Kha Gai (Chicken Coconut Galangal), for Asian Lunar New Year – Whole 30
Contains: Fish sauce, coconut, optional nightshade. Is: Whole 30, Paleo, gluten-free. Prepared for the start of the Asian Lunar Calendar, Year of the Rat. I absolutely LOVE Tom Kha style soups. I’ve finally made one that I’m happy to bring … Continue reading
Paleo Coconut Fried Pork Chops
I wanted to make a different recipe, but with one thing or another (lack of a critical ingredient), this is what happened. I’m fine with this recipe, however. This served just me, but go ahead and double or quadruple. You … Continue reading
Paleo Battered Okra, with Coconut Flakes
Usually, I can’t seem to find quality okra in most supermarkets… it is a food for a distinct audience, which doesn’t seem to include my New England environment. But I do find it in East Asian and in Indian groceries, … Continue reading
GF Scotch Duck Egg with Ground Beef, Coconut Flakes
Well, it’s experiment time again! I’ve never before eaten Scotch eggs, much less made them. They’re seasoned ground meat of your choice wrapped around a peeled boiled egg, which can be semi-soft or hard cooked prior to the wrapping. Then, … Continue reading
You Put de Lime in de Coconut…
I’m hearing all this good stuff about the benefits of coconut, whether as oil or milk or coconut flour. The latter of course is from those giving up grains who want flour of some sort, whether to coat/bread food or … Continue reading
Holi, Indian Festival of Colors: Chicken Tikka Masala Whole30 Style
Contains: Coconut, nightshades. Is: Gluten-free, Paleo, Whole 30. Yes, if you prefer to have basmati or jasmine rice instead of cauliflower rice, please go ahead. I made this when I wanted to do one of those Whole 30 … Continue reading →
