Blasts from the Past
Of Goats and Greens
A blog for food and cookery and discussions of weird things like nutrition, restaurant excursions, growing food in my own garden, DIY, and farmsteading/homesteading. But, mostly food. Mostly harmless...
I definitely steer to a preference for Real Food. (Would someone's great-grandparent somewhere have recognized that item as food?) Otherwise, I'm an omnivore who travels the world (gustatorially). Yes, I also make use of "odd bits". No, I don't bake desserts much -- I really don't have much of a "sweet-tooth". Nearly all of my recipes in recent years are gluten-free. And other than coconut, my recent and future recipes are tree-nut free, as I have digestive issues with those. There's a strong Paleo influence here.
I try to post recipes every Friday, with potential supplemental posts on Tuesdays.
Please leave me comments! Interacting with folk drives me forward!

Of Chickens and Chickpeas
Contains: Legumes. Is: Gluten-free, grain-free. Well, perhaps this should be my new blog name, as I don’t yet have those goats I want to raise here. I’d named this blog after what turned out to be just about my favorite … Continue reading
Just Ducky, Part VI: Roasted Duck Legs, Cauliflower and Plum
Just got to love a duck. Just got to love going back and looking at old drafts, and discovering posts that were completed but were never… posted. This one is a few years old. So, no summary above the recipe … Continue reading
Vegetarian Cauliflower and Onion Pakora
Several months back, I stopped at an Indian restaurant, the Aroma Bar and Grill, on my way home, and ordered a meal. My meal came with pakoras (among other things) on the side. Seriously, those things ranked 10 out of 5, and … Continue reading
Gluten-Free, Braised, Stuffed Lamb Hearts: Featuring Cauliflower
Here is a Paleo-friendly (use Coconut aminos instead of soy/tamari sauce, and go with my Mirin substitution idea) recipe for stuffed, braised lamb hearts. They are wrapped with bacon to keep moisture in while baking. This recipe uses cauliflower rather … Continue reading
Pork Meat Loaf with Cauliflower, Apple and Fennel
Pork and apples… Apples and pork… There’s a theme going on here, and fennel also goes well with pork, just as rosemary partners well with lamb. And, I’ve discovered I LIKE meatloaf — if one leaves out the breadstuffs and grains! … Continue reading
Holi, Indian Festival of Colors: Chicken Tikka Masala Whole30 Style
Contains: Coconut, nightshades. Is: Gluten-free, Paleo, Whole 30. Yes, if you prefer to have basmati or jasmine rice instead of cauliflower rice, please go ahead. I made this when I wanted to do one of those Whole 30 … Continue reading →
