Blasts from the Past
Of Goats and Greens
A blog for food and cookery and discussions of weird things like nutrition, restaurant excursions, growing food in my own garden, DIY, and farmsteading/homesteading. But, mostly food. Mostly harmless...
I definitely steer to a preference for Real Food. (Would someone's great-grandparent somewhere have recognized that item as food?) Otherwise, I'm an omnivore who travels the world (gustatorially). Yes, I also make use of "odd bits". No, I don't bake desserts much -- I really don't have much of a "sweet-tooth". Nearly all of my recipes in recent years are gluten-free. And other than coconut, my recent and future recipes are tree-nut free, as I have digestive issues with those. There's a strong Paleo influence here.
I try to post recipes every Friday, with potential supplemental posts on Tuesdays.
Please leave me comments! Interacting with folk drives me forward!

Roasted Kohlrabi & Brussels Sprouts with Valais Cheese
Contains: Dairy, nightshades (seasoning only). Is: Vegetarian. Recipe concept sourced from: https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/food-network-kitchen/roasted-kohlrabi-with-parmesan-3561919. I made some minor changes, but enough to say it is no longer that cook’s recipe. I had neither Parmesans nor parsley, so you are instead reading my … Continue reading
Lamb Broth Soup with Brussels Sprouts
Remember the Leg of Lamb Mechoui? There was so much luscious leftover au jus from that, that I saved it in a bowl, placed it in the refrigerator, and easily skimmed off the small layer of fat the next … Continue reading
An Eastern-Asian Soup
I haven’t driven since December 13th (recovering from surgery), and my pantry in my new home is not yet installed, so some of my foodstuffs are not readily find-able. But I was in the mood for a nice winter-body warming … Continue reading
Kale, Apple, Pear, Onion, Brussels Sprouts, Squash Casserole

Brussels Sprouts, Shallots and Pacific Salmon
I fell down a week ago and badly bruised my right, dominant hand, forearm. This has limited my cooking and eating. My knife work is down to about zero, unless what I’m chopping at is already tender. I’m eating Brit … Continue reading

Dining Out: The Lazy Goat, Greenville, S.C.
