Blasts from the Past
Of Goats and Greens
A blog for food and cookery and discussions of weird things like nutrition, restaurant excursions, growing food in my own garden, DIY, and farmsteading/homesteading. But, mostly food. Mostly harmless...
I definitely steer to a preference for Real Food. (Would someone's great-grandparent somewhere have recognized that item as food?) Otherwise, I'm an omnivore who travels the world (gustatorially). Yes, I also make use of "odd bits". No, I don't bake desserts much -- I really don't have much of a "sweet-tooth". Nearly all of my recipes in recent years are gluten-free. And other than coconut, my recent and future recipes are tree-nut free, as I have digestive issues with those. There's a strong Paleo influence here.
I try to post recipes every Friday, with potential supplemental posts on Tuesdays.
Please leave me comments! Interacting with folk drives me forward!

Large Smelts Baked with Bok Choy and Mushrooms
Contains: Seafood (fish), nightshades (seasoning). Is: Quick and easy. My camera’s battery is about dead, and the charger has gone on walkabout, so I’ve chosen to find an old recipe I made back in 2007 and recorded elsewhere. I was … Continue reading
Lengua (Tongue) in Mushroom Sauce, Filipino-Inspired
Contains: Offal, dairy. The inspiration recipe for this one is Filipino-based, and is a Lengua in Mushroom Sauce. Although I doubt it is traditional in the Philippines to use canned condensed mushroom soup – but just as everywhere, people do … Continue reading
Ox Tongue Steaks, Japanese Style (from Beef or Bison)

Chinese-Seasoned Country Style Pork Ribs

Goan Fish Curry
Contains: Seafood (fish), coconut, nightshades. Is: Gluten-free, Whole30, paleo, quick and easy. Fish specific to the waters of Goa, India, would be preferred, but as this isn’t always possible (including where I live), any decent white fish of a bit … Continue reading
Tomagoyaki: A Japanese Rolled Omelet (Dashimaki Variant)

Vietnamese-Style Summer Rolls with Smoked Salmon and Additions (Gỏi Cuốn)

Chinese Stir-Fried Chicken Hearts with Shiitake and Vegetables (Chicken Thigh Option)
Contains: Offal, nightshades, legumes (soy), a small amount of alcohol. Is: Quick and Easy, can be made gluten-free, paleo. You can add in gizzards and even liver to this should you care to. (Personally, I’d go for gizzards, chopped up, … Continue reading
Vegetarian Bengali Inspired Bitter Melon Dish (with Panch Phoron)
Contains: Nightshades, legumes, dairy. Is: Vegetarian, gluten-free. I snagged a bitter melon on my last venture to Connecticut, where I picked up a healthy-looking bitter melon. This vegetable really does live up to its name – very, very bitter. But … Continue reading
