Of Goats and Greens
This is a food-oriented blog. As it grows, I'll be fine-tuning the categories. I'm expecting a Recipe category will provide actual amounts of ingredients used to create a recipe; the Cooking category is meant to be a riff on things I've put together without measuring, or on things I've adapted from cookbooks or other websites.
As this develops I'll get these categories as useful as possible so readers can go where it most interests them. I'm personally mostly interested in things low carb, and definitely steer to a preference for Real Food. All posts will (barring emergencies) consist of things dealing with food or nutrition. Or with the of growing veggies or other forms of food, or getting my eventual farmstead up and running.
Please leave me a line!

Bobcat Surprise. And My “The Meal” Photo and Basic Recipe (Salad)
For our first trick, we’re going to roast a bobcat… No, only kidding. This is the feller that strayed into my side yard yesterday. The photos are less than stellar, but he (she?) wasn’t going to stand still for it. … Continue reading
The Meal — an attempt to document a meal or a snack photographed Friday 12:00 noon EST, Feb 24th..
I’m not sure what the significance of this all is, but for me it will be a minor bit of fun that I’ll go ahead and participate in. http://www.arthousecoop.com/projects/themeal — The Meal. Apparently, they want photographers interested in what they … Continue reading
Another Shad Roe Recipe
All right. I posted about shad roe last year. But no, I found an early shad roe in the supermarket over the last weekend. It’s pricey, but I was sort of on the depressed side, and figured it could cheer … Continue reading
Monkfish, Asparagus, Shiitake
1.5 tablespoon quality butter (in my case, pastured Kate’s Homemade Butter) 1.5 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil Juice of 1/2 lemon 1/4 cup of extra dry vermouth 1 pound = 1.25 pound of monkfish, sliced into 1/2 inch or smaller … Continue reading
On a Wing and a Prayer
Okay, up front here, serious disclaimer and curmudgeon alert (but we will get to the recipe sooner or later): watching grass grow is more interesting and rewarding to me than watching pro sports, especially football or baseball. Basketball at least … Continue reading

Adventuring in Manhattan – Dining Out
I got invited to hang out at a beer bar and an Ethiopian restaurant down in New York City Saturday a week ago (February the 18th), which sounded like a fine idea, especially since it has been years since I’ve … Continue reading →
